Looks like El Niño is coming
The Climate Prediction Center has issued an El Niño watch, meaning El Niño conditions are likely to develop this fall and winter. El Niño conditions are the result of warmer than normal waters in the eastern, equatorial Pacific Ocean.
El Niño winters are often wetter and cooler than normal in the southern United States.
Last winter, which was warmer and drier than normal, occurred during La Niña conditions. During La Niña events, the waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean are cooler than normal.
